Classic Blue: Pantone Color of the Year

Classic Blue: Pantone Color of the Year

Colors can tell a story, evoke an emotion, and set the mood. That's why choosing the right ones is such an important decision in visual fields like floral design.

Each year, Pantone, the world leader in color matching for brands and manufacturers, chooses their Color of the Year. Their selection is chosen by color experts from the Pantone Color Institute, who draw inspiration from all around the world, including the entertainment industry, art, fashion, travel, technology, and even social media. By examining these and other influences, they are able to thoughtfully choose a color they feel best represents what consumers will be looking for in the upcoming year.

For 2020, they have selected a deep shade of blue, PANTONE 19-4052, which they call “Classic Blue.”

According to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, this dependable shade of blue is “imbued with a deep resonance” and “provides an anchoring foundation.”

“Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.”

Blue is a color most commonly associated with peaceful thoughts and calm feelings. It helps contribute to a stable environment and relaxed communication. It also instills confidence, which is why it’s a color that so many brands choose to use.

We expect to see this color trend moving into home decor this year, so it’s the perfect time for you to consider what blue flowers will work for your arrangements!

Iris

With their distinct shape and gorgeous blue coloring, irises make a welcome addition to floral arrangements! The naturally inky shade of blue of the iris is a perfect way to incorporate the Pantone Color of the Year into any design.

Delphinium

Delphiniums are a perfect way to add height to your arrangements! They come in a variety of blue shades, so they’re a great option to give a little extra contrast. The darker shades of blue delphinium are very similar to Classic Blue, so if you want to convey that feeling of dependability and confidence, these might be the flowers you’re looking for.

Hydrangea

Since they’re on the lighter side of the blue spectrum, hydrangeas are perfect for creating a sense of peace and tranquility. Their blooming poms are a fantastic way to fill out an arrangement.

Hyacinth

These vibrant blue blooms are a beautiful addition! The deep blue of hyacinth echoes the mystery of the night sky, making it the perfect choice for when you want to add a sense of wonder and thoughtfulness.

Cornflower

Also known as Bachelor’s Button, cornflower is yet another beautiful blue option that would be gorgeous in any arrangement. Its bright sapphire shade makes for a dramatic pop of color and adds a timeless, elegant vibe.

Be creative when it comes to how you arrange these beautiful blues! Get inspired by where this color occurs in nature, such as the ocean or the evening sky.

Incorporate Classic Blue in unexpected ways to really pack a punch! Consider using a blue vase or ribbon to accessorize your gorgeous flowers. You could even spray some of your dried materials with a shade of blue to add visual interest and depth to your arrangements. The possibilities are endless!

Now is the time to start incorporating this trendy color into your flower arrangements. No matter which way you choose to use it, we know you’ll create something beautiful!
